The Oakajee Development reflects The Western Australian Government's commitment to using the Oakajee port site, located about 25 kilometres north of Geraldton, for a future port and industrial estate to support the continued development of the Mid West.
The State Government owns over 6,000 hectares of land at the proposed Oakajee site, including:
- 1000 hectare port site
- 1300 hectare industrial estate
- 4000 hectare industrial estate buffer
This land will provide for a future large-scale port and industrial purposes.
The Oakajee Development also includes the planned Oakajee Narngulu Infrastructure Corridor that will connect the Oakajee site with the Narngulu Industrial Estate, 12 kilometres south-east of Geraldton. The corridor is designed to be a multi-purpose, multi-use infrastructure corridor and contains sections dedicated for rail, road, and utilities.
To provide improved planning certainty for a future port and industrial development at Oakajee, the Department of State Development is progressing long term and integrated planning agreeements over the individual Oakajee Development areas.
The department has also completed work on concept plans identifying options for the development of the Oakajee port on a scaled and staged approach over time. This work will inform development plans for Oakajee in the future.
The State Government remains committed to the development of the Oakajee port and industrial estate when there is sufficient demand and commercial interest.
