Western Australian Defence and Defence Industries Strategic Plan
Western Australian Defence and Defence Industries Strategic Plan
On 30 October 2018 the Premier launched the
WA Defence and Defence Industries Strategic Plan
(the Strategic Plan). The Strategic Plan provides direction across six key strategies to ensure WA is able to be a key player in the national and international defence industry and also be a major contributor towards the needs and requirements of the Australian Defence Force. The Strategic Plan draws on the State’s key pre-established strengths and capabilities in maintenance and sustainment, outlining a vision for the State to become the principal location for the delivery of all maintenance and sustainment requirements for Australia’s submarines and frigates. The Strategic Plan also focuses on strengthening and diversifying WA’s economy through identifying and developing research and development opportunities and cutting edge science and innovation.
Implementation of the Strategic Plan is a priority for Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI). It will require effective consultation and collaboration with stakeholders and several government agencies. JTSI is leading a program of work across government to implement the Strategic Plan.An intensive planning phase is underway.
The planning phase is expected to take around six weeks across December and January. This phase will include the establishment of a program of governance and accountability, definition of scope and key milestones, and the development of the first annual implementation plan, as well as the two-year road map for implementation.
Working with stakeholders will be important to the success of the Strategic Plan.JTSI and other Government agencies will work with stakeholders both in the planning phase and during implementation.
The implementation plan and roadmap are anticipated to be launched by Government in the first quarter of 2019.
