Australia places a great deal of emphasis on food safety and biosecurity.

The Department of Agriculture’s Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) is responsible for setting the rules on imports; the department’s Biosecurity Australia provides AQIS with policy advice on the importation of quarantine risk material to Australia.

Western Australia has its own border protection rules, particularly for food products. The Department of Agriculture and Food establishes import controls, conducts inspections and works with stakeholders to identify and manage biosecurity risks.

Australia.gov.au covers a range of topics for business and industry, as well as biosecurity inspections and quarantine. It has links to online government directories, departments and agencies and a host of other helpful sites covering a broad range of industries.
