Vietnam is Western Australia’s sixteenth largest merchandise export market. Western Australia exported A$1.2 billion of goods to Vietnam in 2019, with the top exports being iron ore, wheat and ferrous waste and scrap. Vietnam is Western Australia’s largest export market for ferrous waste and scrap.

Vietnam is Western Australia’s twenty-first largest source of merchandise imports. Western Australia imported A$285 million of goods from Vietnam in 2019, with the top imports being monitors and projectors, crude oil and furniture.

Vietnam is the fourteenth largest destination for Australia’s direct investment abroad (A$2.6 billion in 2019).

In 2019, Western Australia had 5,100 visitors and 1,588 students from Vietnam. For Western Australian tourists, Vietnam is the ninth most popular overseas destination, with 30,000 Western Australians visiting Vietnam in 2018.

Western Australia has a growing Vietnamese community. In 2016, 22,000 Western Australian residents had Vietnamese ancestry and 16,000 were born in Vietnam.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation supports Western Australia’s investment and trade with Vietnam through its Singapore Office, which was established in 2012.
