Global Offices – Middle East-2 – November 2018

The Government of Western Australia’s Middle East and Africa Office in Dubai has been supporting Western Australian businesses in the Gulf, Middle East and Africa for over 16 years.

Dubai is a commercial hub for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region. The Middle East and African region presents diverse economic and commercial potential. Annual trade between Western Australia and the Middle East and Africa averaged A$7.5 billion over the ten years to 2019. The Gulf also offers significant investment opportunities for Western Australian companies, particularly in the mining, agriculture, maritime and infrastructure development sectors.

Dubai is also a fast-developing educational centre for the region. Two universities, Murdoch and Curtin have an international campus in Dubai, and Edith Cowan University is in partnership with Emirates Group Security.

There are trade opportunities for Western Australian companies in a number of sectors, including resources and energy, food, defence, infrastructure, digital services and agriculture.

In 2014, Western Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). This MoU focuses on education, training and capacity building in the mining and resources, agriculture and agribusiness sectors.

The Government of Western Australia’s Middle East and Africa Office helps Western Australian companies access trade and investment opportunities in the Gulf, Middle East and Africa.
