In 2019, Indonesia was Western Australia’s twelfth largest trading partner, with total bilateral trade of A$3.3 billion. Indonesia was Western Australia’s tenth largest export market and ninth largest import market. Western Australia’s main exports to Indonesia include petroleum, iron ore and wheat. In 2019, Indonesia was Western Australia’s fourteenth largest market for international students and eighth largest market for international visitors.
In August 1990, Western Australia established a Sister State Relationship with the Indonesian province of East Java. Developing strong links in education and vocational training, resources and energy as well as promoting cultural and sporting exchanges.
