The Defence Science Centre provides grants to support collaborative defence-relevant research and research related activities, including capability development and capacity building. These grant programs are an important tool in facilitating university-government-industry research and skills exchange as well as cultivating relationships and linkages. We provide three grant streams:
Defence Science Centre Collaborative Research Grants – provides funding to enable industry and or DST to undertake collaborative research with Defence Science Centre Participant universities to facilitate defence-relevant research engagement among universities, industry, DST and Defence organisations; and connect SMEs to research and expertise in order to strengthen SME participation in defence business. Providing this funding helps to address the financial barriers to collaboration and will produce activities with the potential to lead to larger projects.
Defence Science Centre Research Higher Degree Student Grants - provides funding to students working on collaborative defence-relevant projects and or undertaking defence-industry placements as part of their study. This mechanism aims to develop research linkages among universities, DST Group and defence sector business; support capacity-building in research areas where Defence has an interest and will promote new defence-related research linkages among universities.
The Artificial Intelligence for Decision Making Initiative - The Initiative is a national program formulated to inspire solutions from individuals to grow Australia’s Artificial Intelligence capability and foster a national network focused on developing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technology of significant importance to the Australian defence and national security community.
