  • Premier welcomes commencement of Chevron Australia's Wheatstone domestic gas deliveries
  • Domestic gas supplies to ensure more jobs in Western Australia
  • Reliable and cheap energy will help secure WA's economic growth

Premier Mark McGowan today congratulated Chevron Australia and its joint venture partners on the commencement of domestic gas deliveries from its Wheatstone natural gas facility, near Onslow.

Domestic gas infrastructure is central to the WA Domestic Gas Policy, and Chevron's announcement means our State's consumers can be confident that gas is available for them.

In addition, Western Australia's reliable and affordable gas supply could also help businesses in other Australian jurisdictions grow, if they move their businesses to our State.

Western Australia's gas is not only reliable, it is cheap compared with other Australian jurisdictions and relocating to Western Australia could present a smart business opportunity.

This will also encourage industries to develop downstream processing opportunities and is consistent with the aims of the Premier's LNG Jobs Taskforce.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"I congratulate Chevron Australia on this important milestone. Chevron's announcement is a win for WA households, businesses and industry and concludes a major chapter in the growth of the State's LNG industry.

"The domestic gas policy, introduced by the former Labor Government, has helped to secure Western Australia's long-term gas supplies.

"Western Australia enjoys the lowest wholesale gas prices in the country, and there is a big opportunity for Eastern States businesses to relocate to here to take advantage of the cost and reliability of our gas supply.

"My Government will continue to encourage investment in WA to create more jobs for Western Australians.

"Our LNG Jobs Taskforce continues to work to establish WA as a LNG hub and to maximise the jobs that flow to Western Australians from the LNG industry."
