- State Government funds popular food and wine event until 2021
- Annual event held over 10 days in the Great Southern region
- Event attracts thousands of attendees, stimulating the local economy
Food and wine fans will continue to enjoy mouth-watering delights at Taste Great Southern after the popular culinary festival secured State Government funding for the next three years.
The annual event comprises activities that celebrate the lifestyle, premium food and award-winning wine of Western Australia's Great Southern region.
The aim of the festival is to profile and add vibrancy to the Great Southern region by offering a diverse program of events that showcase local produce, places, talent and culture to visitors from outside of the region.
Past events have attracted up to 10,000 attendees, with about 1,500 visitors from outside the Great Southern region each year, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars for the local economy.
Taste Great Southern will deliver about 25 unique food and wine events over 10 days, from the end of March to early April each year, providing opportunities for local businesses as well as casual employment in the lead-up to, and during, the event.
Local artists and musicians are included in a number of events across the festival, including performances on streetscapes, and at local produce markets, restaurants and wineries.
The event owner, Great Southern Tourism Events, will put out a tender for a professional event management company to manage the event over the three-year contract.
