• Tender let for $41.8 million Onslow Health Service
• Project to support more than 500 jobs
• Part of $194.1m North West Health Initiative, supported by Royalties for Regions 

Construction will start today on Onslow's new $41.8 million health service, bringing long-term benefits to the local community.

Health Minister John Day said Cockram Construction Ltd had won the tender to build the new health facility, which was due for completion in mid-2018.

"Residents will have the services of an expanded three-bed emergency department, a six-bed inpatient unit with single rooms each with ensuites, a digital imaging department and telehealth links for rapid access to off-site emergency specialists," Mr Day said.

"It will also have new pathology, dental, child health, community mental health, community health nursing, physiotherapy, speech and occupational therapy and counselling facilities."

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the Onslow Health Service was an important part of the State Government's $194.1 million North West Health Initiative.

"Investment in health infrastructure is critical for community sustainability and I am proud the Royalties for Regions program is investing $150.1 million in the initiative," Mr Redman said.

"Design and construction of the Onslow Health Service is expected to support up to 530 jobs."

Funding of Onslow's health service redevelopment includes $22 million from the Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG project, located 12 kilometres west of the town.

State Development Minister Bill Marmion said Wheatstone had committed more than $250 million to critical and social infrastructure projects across Onslow, under its State Development Agreement.

"Almost a dozen State agencies are involved in delivering these projects, which together are making Onslow a more vibrant, modern and liveable town and ensuring residents benefit from the development of the Wheatstone project," Mr Marmion said.
