- Western Australia's eight overseas trade and investment representatives are in Perth to promote investment
- Visit will promote trade and opportunities to diversify the economy and create jobs
Premier Mark McGowan last night met with the Government of Western Australia's seven overseas Commissioners and the Agent General-Designate to discuss trade and investment opportunities to diversify the State's economy and create jobs.
The Commissioners, and Europe Agent General-Designate Commodore Mike Deeks CSC RAN (Rtd) who will soon take up his posting to London, are in Perth for the regular Commissioners Week conference, which this year will focus on tourism, international education and investment.
The Premier discussed with the Commissioners how to attract more overseas direct flights to Perth by exploring opportunities for a second direct route from China; and a new direct route from Japan, India and other markets.
The Commissioners discussed the development of an International Education Strategy to increase Western Australia's market share of international students.
Discussions will also ensure Western Australia capitalises on its status as the world's leading producer of lithium, with the potential to increase downstream processing of lithium and other energy materials in the State.
As part of their program, the Commissioners will engage with industry organisations and businesses to update them on existing and forthcoming major investment projects and opportunities.
They will also meet with innovative exporters across a range of priority industries such as education, defence and marine, mining/mining equipment technology and services, oil and gas/petroleum equipment technology services, agriculture and food, science and innovation, and tourism.
