Science and Innovation and ICT Minister Dave Kelly today announced the McGowan Government will provide $25.8 million over three years for the Scitech Discovery Centre in West Perth.

The funding commitment for Scitech recognises the centre's key role in promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), especially in young people.

Under the new three-year funding agreement, Scitech will receive $8.6 million per year from the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

The State Government has funded Scitech, which opened in 1988, since its establishment by former Deputy Premier, the late Mal Bryce.  Scitech delivers its activities through the Scitech Discovery Centre at City West, regionally through outreach programs for regional and remote schools, and exhibition rentals nationally and internationally.

Scitech's exhibitions, regional tours and teacher development programs engage more than 500,000 Western Australians each year with Scitech's web and social media platforms engaging hundreds of thousands more.

The McGowan Government is committed to promoting and enhancing STEM education through a range of initiatives to prepare Western Australians for future WA jobs.

Initiatives include $17 million for science programs in up to 200 public primary schools, making coding part of the school curriculum, more than $3.3 million in new funding to kick-start WA's STEM skills strategy and drive WA's future jobs and school science grants.
