Asian Engagement Minister Bill Johnston will today deliver a speech and promote Western Australia's capabilities in the new and renewable energy fields at the Australia-Indonesia Renewable Energy Seminar in Makassar.

Power reliability is an ongoing concern for Indonesia, where the supply of energy to isolated and remote locations is a geographical and logistical challenge.

Mr Johnston will be accompanied by Horizon Power chief executive officer Frank Tudor and will discuss at the event, WA's technical capabilities and solutions to provide energy.

He will also meet with several Indonesian businessmen, Australian companies in Makassar, Australian alumni and South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo to discuss business opportunities in south and east Indonesia.

Western Australia is the world's largest producer of lithium, a critical ingredient for battery storage technology, and has well-advanced downstream processing projects that will manage the battery materials supply chain.

Additionally, WA's energy utility providers are highly experienced in developing successful microgrid technology solutions and battery energy storage systems in remote locations.

These technologies can help facilitate Indonesia's growing demand for electricity supply.
