  • AustCyber Node to be established at Joondalup Innovation Hub
  • McGowan Government commits $800,000 in funding through the New Industries Fund
  • GovPitch event mid-year to officially launch the AustCyber WA Node

A Western Australian Node of the federally funded, industry-led AustCyber organisation will be established at the Joondalup Innovation Hub, demonstrating the strength of the local cyber security industry.

The WA Node will focus on critical infrastructure, cybercrime and big data, drawing on existing strengths at Edith Cowan University, which is a world-leader in cyber security research.

AustCyber is a not-for-profit, industry-led organisation which brings together businesses and researchers, providing access to national networks to develop next generation products and services.

The Joondalup Innovation Hub is an initiative of the McGowan Government's New Industries Fund, a $16.7 million initiative to support and accelerate new and emerging businesses in WA.

The New Industries Fund is providing $200,000 per year in funding over four years to support operations and staffing at the hub, partnering with AustCyber with $50,000 per year of matched funding to support the node.

Recruitment of a local node leader is underway.

The Node will be officially launched mid-year with a GovPitch event, where companies will be invited to pitch solutions to real-world problems facing the WA public sector.

Updates about events and opportunities will be posted at http://www.newindustries.wa.gov.au
