Prospect June 2015In this issue, we travel to India with Western Australian Premier and State Development Minister Colin Barnett and look at Western Australia’s growing relationship with the South Asia republic.

We cover also the Premier’s keynote address at the In the Zone conference, held in Singapore, where he launched the new “State of Mind” publication. The new report, by the University of Western Australia’s Energy and Minerals Institute and Knowledge Society, investigates Western Australia’s achievements as “the world’s number one diversified minerals and energy province” and looks at future opportunities.

Prospect’s international focus continues with coverage of Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion’s recent mission abroad to East Asia to promote investment in Western Australia’s resources sector, and we report on the upcoming Africa Down Under (ADU) conference. To be held in Perth from 2-4 September, the event spotlights mining opportunities in Africa. Last year’s conference proved popular with 16 African ministerial delegations participating.

In Western Australia, Minister Marmion announces that a new gas field find – the state’s largest onshore gas field discovery in decades – could rival the North West Shelf.

In the Pilbara region, the Anketell Port project has reached a significant milestone with the State Government starting the formal acquisition of land process. Anketell is planned to be a multi-user, deepwater port and associated strategic industrial area, including an iron ore export facility with 350 million tonnes capacity at full development.

Other stories in this edition of Prospect include:

  • The Roy Hill iron ore mine is on track to deliver its first shipload of iron ore in September.
  • The longest pipeline to be constructed in Western Australia for more than a decade is set to provide the Pilbara region with new energy supply options.
  • A new national park in the Kimberley region is a step closer thanks to a historic State Agreement for the development of an alumina refinery and bauxite mine to be terminated.
  • Western Australia is moving full steam ahead with planning for LNG 18 – the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry’s biggest global event – to be held in Perth from 11-15 April, 2016.
