New era for StudyPerth to attract international students and create WA jobs

Premier Mark McGowan has today welcomed the appointment of prominent and well-respected international education executive, Rod Jones as the new chairperson of StudyPerth.

Mr Jones has more than 45 years' experience in education, and co-founded Navitas, one of Australia's biggest international education providers, more than 20 years ago.

He will retire as chief executive officer and managing director of Navitas in June 2018.

StudyPerth is Western Australia's peak body for promoting the international education sector and receives about $1.3 million in State funding each year.

A key part of the McGowan Government's Plan for Jobs, $2 million has been allocated over five years to develop an International Education Strategy to grow and diversify the knowledge economy.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation is currently working with StudyPerth members to finalise the International Education Strategy.
